Splendid Cafe (Review): Not quite..

~Before the food~

Stepping into the Splendid Cafe at AU2 Setiawangsa, I had a strange feeling of de ja vu. The ambience, the menu, even the letter font on the napkins .. "macam pernah nampak, tapi di mana ya??" Then it hit me! The whole place reminded me of Secret Recipe. Well they do say that "Imitation is the highest form of flattery".

Our lunch menu:

• Sweet and Sour Chicken (MINE!)

• Black pepper chicken chop with rice

• Mushroom chicken chop with rice

• Fish and chips

~Sigh~

Strange, usually I'm the one who will be ordering western but this time I was the odd duck. Bad idea! The moment my food arrived I knew it was going to be a disaster. The picture in the menu looked so appetizing whereas the plate of chicken in front of me looked pale and unappealing. The taste? I usually love chicken pieces that are coated and fried prior to being drenched in sauce because they usually retain juiciness and crunchiness but that was not the case this time. The cook must have added the chicken into the sauce and left it to soak because, the flour coating was soggy! The sweet and sour sauce itself tasted like watered down ketchup plus chilli sauce from a bottle. So sad :(
