The reason why I like watching talent shows on television is that I really enjoy watching talented "normal" people achieving their dreams. Many people have sung this song on a singing competition (more famously, Kris Allen on his American Idol final- which I also liked) but I chose this version because this was a first round audition, so it was more raw and unpolished (and his voice is amazing).

I have always had a soft spot for the acoustic guitar. It tops my list of sweet talents that I love in other people (and secretly wish I could do myself). I stumbled across this video a couple of years ago and thought it was awesome. This guy may not have the best voice, he might not even have killer guitar skills but his enthusiasm is infectious. (I even prefer it to the much gushed over version done by Andrew Garcia on American Idol).

When I was sixteen years old, I was blessed to meet a teacher that allowed me to fulfill my full potential. She taught us to express ourselves, believe in our strengths and most importantly the value of friendship. She was my Homeroom teacher, Puan Siti Munirah Abdul Majid. She was my English teacher and my debate coach. She made us write a journal and we all poured out all our hopes, dreams, fears and insecurities in that little notebook. For teacher's day, we gave a her a big card once, with the lyrics of this song written in it.

I love listening to "old" songs. The best music really is evergreen. This song is probably one of my favourite duets, not only because the song is beautiful and the singers superb but also because of the sweet glimpse at human nature that it affords us. I love watching Amy looking so nervous taking centre stage with a legend like Rod Stewart. I love the way the audience sings along. It is a gorgeous clip. Enjoy.

I first heard this song on So You Think You Can Dance when Billy Bell and Katherine danced a beautiful contemporary number to it. The tune was so haunting and the lyrics so raw that I immediately went searching for it. This is actually the first hit single from Christina Perri, and the song really did debut on SYTYCD. She has other beautiful songs out now, like "Arms" which I also like but for today lets listen to Jar of Hearts. I'm sure all of us have felt this way once in our lives.
